How HytaleLobby checks your status
Every 5 minutes, HytaleLobby sends a query to each listed server over UDP and reads the answer: whether the server is up, how many players are online, the maximum player count and the version. The query goes to the query port if you set one in your server settings, and to your game port if you did not. If nothing answers, the server is shown as offline.
The query plugin is required
Hytale servers answer this kind of status query through a plugin. HytaleLobby’s dashboard asks owners to install the OneQuery plugin: drop the .jar into your server’s mods/ folder and restart. Without a query plugin the server cannot be read, so it will show offline even if players can join.
Checklist when a server shows offline
- Is the query plugin installed and loaded? Check the
mods/folder and the server log after a restart. - Is the port open for UDP? Hytale uses UDP, not TCP. Open the game port (5520 by default) or your query port for UDP in your firewall, hosting panel and router.
- Does the address resolve? The address in your listing must point to the machine running the server. If you changed hosts or IP, update the listing in your dashboard.
- Is the port in your listing right? If the server runs on a non-default port, the port field must match it, and the query port field too if it differs.
- Is DDoS protection filtering UDP? Some protection layers drop unknown UDP traffic, and a dropped status query looks exactly like an offline server. If you use one, allow status queries to your game or query port.
- Is the server actually running? A crashed or stopped server cannot answer.
What happens if it stays offline
Once a day, HytaleLobby counts how many days in a row each server has been offline. After 14 days in a row the server is removed from the list, and you would need to add it again. Any online check resets the counter, so fixing the problem early keeps your listing and your votes safe. The full rules are on the About page.
